American Airlines to Launch Basic Economy to Europe
PDF Print E-mail

From Business Travel Executive:

American Airlines will introduce Basic Economy fares in April on select flights across the Atlantic. Most options and restrictions for transatlantic Basic Economy are similar to those for domestic Basic Economy or for short-haul international Basic Economy such as flights to Canada, with a few differences. Travelers will be charged for their first checked bag, instead of getting one bag free. Seats won’t be assigned until check-in but can be assigned earlier for a fee. Passengers will be allowed to carry on a personal item and a bag, while domestic Basic Economy allows only a personal item that fits under the seat. The move is being made with Atlantic Joint Business partners British Airways, Iberia and Finnair so that customers will be able to buy the discounted fare on flights by all four carriers. The tickets are nonrefundable, don’t allow for upgrades and can’t be changed on the day of flight. The international ticket will allow changes before day of departure for a fee; the domestic version doesn’t allow for those changes.
